Visit These Parks in Pflugerville

Parks Pflugerville

The Pflugerville area has a lot to offer, but one of its best assets has to be its parks system. The City of Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Department does a lovely job of maintaining and updating the city's parks. This weekend, we recommend taking a break from looking at Pflugerville homes for sale and visiting one of these local parks.

  • Central Park at Falcon Pointe: 18720 Falcon Pointe Blvd., Pflugerville, TX 78660
    Central Park at Falcon Pointe
is one of the larger parks in Pflugerville. With more than 13 acres of nicely landscaped greenspace, it offers a 9-hole disc golf course and a baseball diamond. The disc golf course is appropriate for players at all levels. Most holes are par 3 or 4.

You can also access the Falcon Pointe Trail from this park. The trail stretches around the park and is open to walkers, runners, and bikers. There are several water fountains you can stop by along the way, along with charcoal grills, picnic tables, and gazebos.

  • Bohls Park: 200 Immanuel Rd., Pflugerville, TX 78660
Bohl's Park is a lovely park for families. It has a playground area with some unique equipment. Adults can enjoy the outdoor exercise stations along the 0.25-mile loop trail. If you want to go a little further, walk along the Gilleland Creek Trail, which begins at the park.

Bohl's Park is also home to soccer fields and volleyball courts. It's a great place to practice your goal shots or play a pickup game on the weekends.

  • Pfluger Park: 515 City Park Rd., Pflugerville, TX 78660
Pfluger Park is a 7-acre park with a lot of entertainment packed into its grounds. There are two gazebos on-site, perfect for hosting casual birthday parties and other gatherings. The colorful, modern playscape is perfect for kids, and the 0.34-mile loop trail is popular with joggers. Pluger Park hosts several yearly musical events, including Music in the Park.

  • Royal Pointe Park: 18712 Candace Loop, Pflugerville, TX 78660
If you like basketball, then Royal Pointe Park is the place for you. The basketball courts here are simply lovely, and many kids and adults in the area enjoy them. There's also a playground with three slides for the kids to enjoy.

Royal Pointe Park may not be the biggest park, but it feels spacious because there is so much grassy, green area. You could plop a blanket down and enjoy a picnic, toss a ball around, or just lie in the grass and look at the clouds.

  • Moose Park: 1218 Settlers Valley Dr., Pflugerville, TX 78660
    Moose Park
is a 1-acre neighborhood park worth visiting this autumn. The playground at this park is under a shelter, so kids can play safely even during rainy weather. There's also a basketball court with non-slip footing. Another great thing about the park is its volleyball courts, which are always filled with local players.

How to Refinish Your Hardwood Floors

Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood floors are durable, versatile, and attractive. One of the best things about them is the fact that they can be refinished again and again. If you just moved into a new home with worn-out hardwood floors, consider refinishing them. It's not that hard to do yourself. Our real estate agents have seen plenty of DIY hardwood floor refinishing jobs that look pristine and professional. Here are some basic steps to follow if you decide to embark on this mission.

  • Step 1: Sand Off the Old Finish
Before you apply a new finish, you need to remove the old one. The best way to do this is by sanding the old finish off. You can do this by hand, although it will take a long time. A better approach is to rent a floor sander. Most home improvement shops rent them out by the day.

As you sand, make sure you periodically stop and vacuum up the dust. Wear a face mask and goggles, so you don't get the dust in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Start with rough, 80-grit sandpaper, then follow up with finer, 50-grit sandpaper. Keep sanding until all the finish is gone.

  • Step 2: Fill Damaged Spots
Grab some wood filler in a color that matches your flooring, and apply it to any dings or dents. If needed, you can use a putty knife to push the filler into holes and then smooth it out.

  • Step 3: Wipe it Down
Once your holes are filled, use a damp cloth to gently wipe down the whole floor. You want to remove any last remnants of dust from the sanding. Let the floor dry completely, for at least a few hours, before moving on to Step 4.

  • Step 4: Apply the Stain
If you want to leave your floor natural and as-is, you can skip staining it and just apply the sealer at this point. But if you want to change the color of the floor, choose an oil-based stain in your preferred color.

Follow the instructions on the stain container to apply the product. Generally, you'll start in the furthest corner of the room and work your way towards the door. Apply stain to about 3 feet of flooring at a time, wiping up any excess after application. Keep a sponge handy to soak up any drips.

Let the floor dry for at least one day — two is better — after applying the stain.

  • Step 5: Apply Sealer
The sealer will protect your hardwood floor from moisture and stains. There are lots of floor sealing products out there, but polyurethane-based ones tend to work best. Vacuum the floor thoroughly before you apply the sealer. Any dust or debris will prevent it from adhering to the surface.

Apply the sealer using a large foam brush. Try to make your strokes as long and even as possible, as this will ensure an even coat of sealer. You may also use a sponge roller if preferred. Let the first coat dry. Then, lightly sand the polyurethane to roughen up the surface. Apply a second coat in the same manner as the first.

Let the sealer dry for at least 3 days before putting furniture or carpets in the room.

Follow these instructions, and your hardwood flooring will soon look as good as new! If you're still searching for Pflugerville homes for sale, don't hesitate to contact us. We'll help you find the perfect place, complete with hardwood floors you can refinish to your liking.
