Welcome to the City of Leander!
The City of Leander, originally called Bagdad, saw its first settlers arrive in the area around 1845. By the 1880’s the railroad industry expanded to Texas with plans to build tracks through Bagdad’s downtown area. The citizens opposed the railroad, so the railroad officials decided to build the tracks one mile east of town instead. Soon after the railroad was completed the townspeople realized their mistake and how being located near the railroad would have benefitted their businesses. So, the original Bagdad settlers packed everything and moved closer to the railroad tracks, establishing the new city of Leander in 1882.
